I’m a fool for Spotify and discovering new music. The day-lists they’ve created have been the best algorithms I’ve ever experienced. From playlists titled '“Rocker MallGoth Monday Evening, Overthinking Lo-Fi Indie Morning, or Soul Crushing Nature Early Morning,” these playlists have always managed to throw a few new songs out there for me to obsess over and overplay until I’m sick of them. So in the tune of music, I thought I’d spend a few minutes today recommending some artists to y’all that you may or may not have already heard of.
Charley Crockett
If you’re like me and forever disliked the pop country music played on the radio, but loved the vibes of cowboys and the west, Charley is an awesome refresher when it comes to country music. He is an incredible mix of Texas country and Louisiana blues. He recently was featured in the movie “Killers of the Flower Moon” for the title track of the film. He’s a step back into old school country writing of murder ballads and jukebox blues. He’s just about to release his newest album “$10 cowboy” and will be touring the US soon (I already bought my ticket to his show in Atlanta, GA). As an added perk, he has incredible style as well.

Gengahr
If you love a funky up beat rhythm, then this band is for you. Gengahr is an english indie rock band from London. Their name is pronounced like Gengar, the ghost type pokémon from the original series. They’ve also been described as dream pop, and psychedelic rock. I don’t know much about the band, but I definitely love a little laid back funky groove when it comes to my down time listening.
Oddities
I’ve already said this once before, but I love the oddities section of a record store. I wanted to share of few of the more recent pickups that I got in hopes to continue to convince you to check out that section, the next time you’re at a record shop.

I found all of these records at different stores in the Atlanta and Athens, GA areas.
I found the Lauren Bacall record at Criminal Records in Little 5 Points.
I found the Evel Knievel and Bogart record at Wuxtry Records
I found the Arnold record at The Record Loft
All of these pieces make great for wall art and with most, you can find them on Spotify to listen to. I highly recommend the Arnold one if you’re looking to work on your “Leg Biceps”1 as he puts it.
Happy listening!
