It’s no surprise that with every summer, there’s usually a song that comes along and we ride or die with it. Sabrina Carpenter has been keeping us up so far with her song “Espresso” and now has some of the most strait-laced guys I know singing along to “Please Please Please.” (It’s me. I’m guys.)
By the end of summer, I’ll probably find myself having overdone myself with poppy jazzy summer surf vibes, but in the meantime I wanted to introduce y’all to a few of the artists I feel like fit the vibe for when you’re building your 2024 summer pop playlists.
Remi Wolf
Remi has been on my shuffle most summer so far. I was first introduced to her through her song “Disco Man” by a friend of mine during a drive, but definitely made the rotation more often after I heard “Sexy Villain.” Much of the internet has been using the phrase “this was supposed to be his/her espresso” when referring to musical artist’s songs that should have taken off more than they have, but Remi is definitely who I think of most recently when folks are looking for that espresso vibe in other places. She has a new LP releasing July 12th 2024.
Sir Woman
Sir Woman is a groovy, soul, funky summer bop that comes from the mind of Kelsey Wilson. I love all things jazz and she falls into this same category for summer vibes for me, but instead for when you’re winding down on the day. Her first song that got me listening was “Highroad” but really “Making Love” now lists itself at the top of my rotation. So if you love a little disco, and need something that keeps the vibe rolling in the evening, definitely check her out.
Jungle
If you haven’t heard them yet, Jungle is fantastic and probably my favorite on this list. They’re a British dance project from London, England. Again, a little bit of jazz and some funk, but what really got me hooked was their music video performances on songs such as “Back On 74.” Back in the day, I loved it when new artists released music videos and I’d spend all day watching them, but specifically I’ve had a particular interest in choreographed dancing for the longest time. I even performed in show choir when in high school. The way the human body moves in tandem is fascinating to me and one of the greatest feelings that you can share with a partner when you know each other so well that it shows itself even in your movements.
So give these folks a try and you’ll have an exciting summer playlist that’ll keep your head bobbing the whole day.
