Between some of my more formal posts, I wanted to write about some smaller, and more random things I’ve found recently that I would recommend.
THE ODDITIES SECTION
I’ve always enjoyed spending a day out and about thrifting and combing through a library of different objects. And just like many other folks, I love going to a record store. Vinyls have always been a prominent item in most collectors lives and especially more so recently in my own. The music found in these stores can encompass a wide variety of genres, eras, types, or otherwise. My most recent obsession when I go to a record store however, has been “The Oddities” section.
When paingstainkinly traversing through the mass amount of musical records found at Wuxtry Records in Athens, GA, I’ve managed to find myself in their oddities section where I found records of Evel Knievel recordings right next to Billy Graham sermons. These vinyls have often been an inexpensive and great gift for friends or even made great wall art as well. Some of my favorite pieces that I’ve found are a record on German beer-drinking music and the Tennessee Vols Marching band that I picked up for a friend.

So next time you’re in a record store, be sure to check out the oddities section, for a unique gift or new piece of art.
DESIGN WITHIN PUBLIC DOMAIN
I’ve always been fascinated by vintage advertisements and design. I can find myself flipping through old Life magazines while thrifting, just to see the artwork within them throughout the years. There’s really no rhyme or reason as far as I can tell if or when a particular piece catches my eye, but they’ve always been a source of inspiration to me when I comes to style and flair. If ever the cover article has a cool enough look, I’ll even frame it up as a piece of art. In fact, right now I have an old ad for Chesterfield Cigarettes from 1947 framed up, which was the backside of Life magazine. This piece in particular means a lot to me just because the model in this ad was actually my grandfather.
All of this being said, I recently discovered a website called “Internet Archive” which seems to be a free public library of digital materials. One of these areas of material in particular is there section “The Magazine Rack”
This section is FILLED with all sorts of vintage magazines that have been digitally scanned into their library and you can read through the entirety of them. So if you’re like me and you enjoy drawing inspiration from vintage ads, or you just want to have a catalog of pieces to look at, so that you can order one as an art piece, I would definitely suggest taking a look through this site, to find some cool graphic designs and other things available for your next inspo session.
MIXED DRINK MIXTAPE
Whenever I’ve had a great friend and client of mine, Greg Taylor, in my barber chair, we’ve always managed to talk about food and drink. As someone who has been delving more into the world of understanding cooking and mixology, my friend Greg recommended a particular instagram called “mixeddrinkmixtape”. This page takes a very pleasing and simple approach to introducing others to the art of mixed drinks.
Their posts usually consist of a photo of the drink, and it’s ingredients.
(The Gold Rush for me is one of my favorites)

The extra special part of their page is that they also curate a music playlist to go with that drink.
So if you’re looking to dabble in the world of mixology, and want a soundtrack to when you bartend for your friends, I highly suggest you check out their page.
